New Dark Void Trailer Features No Brad Pitt

Dark Void comes from developer Airtight Games, a team featuring core designers of Xbox cult fave Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge.

It plays like Gears of War meets Rocketeer (yes, there’s flying and shooting) and tells the story a pilot who crashes in the Bermuda triangle and finds himself caught up in some kind of extra-dimensional alien invasion.

Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B recently signed a deal to make a movie based on the game. Pitt himself may star as protagonist William Agustus Grey.

Dark Void will be published by Capcom in January for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Brad Pitt In Video Game Adap ‘Dark Void’?

Brad Pitt (who I’m informed has been cured of that bizarre reverse ageing thing David Fincher documented) is potentially developing a big screen adaptation of the forthcoming shoot ‘em up Dark Void. The video game is about a pilot who crashes in the Bermuda Triangle, only to discover a parallel universe and a plot to take over the world. According to E!Online the pilot and his crew “end up fighting aliens that were previously presumed to be extinct”. Um, presumed to be extinct? So this is a world where aliens have not only existed, but died out…? Weird.

If he were to star the movie would be something of a departure for Pitt, who hasn’t really appeared in out-and-out Science Fiction, though he has circled several projects, including Aronofsky’s The Fountain (which was eventually made without him) and a sci-fi version of Homer’s Odyssey. Pitt of course had a memorable turn in Terry Gilliam’s wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey movie Twelve Monkeys as a batshit insane dude, though it’s unlikely a videogame will feature a central character that interesting. You know it’s true.

With more and more videogames headed to the big screen chances are that one will eventually be good, could it be Dark Void? The fact that it was optioned before the game is even out says they’re confident about the concept at least…And the trailer is pure awesome:

Brad Pitt to Star in Dark Void Movie

Variety has reported that Brad Pitt's production company signed a contract with Capcom to develop a movie based on Dark Void.

Pitt has signed on to play Dark Void's main character, 1950s cargo pilot William Agustus Grey, who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle and wakes up in a parallel universe. Though the timing feels somewhat early - the retro-sci-fi shooter isn't even due out in North America until January 19th - Dark Void might be compelling enough for a film franchise. Grey and other survivors, including Nicola Tesla, contend against the Watchers, an alien race poised to take over our world. Oh, and there are jetpacks.

The early announcement might be a coup for films based on videogames as such movies don't usually garner such A-list talent like Pitt. The fact that his company, Plan B, is producing the film as well may prove interesting. Plan B's track record is pretty good with films such as Troy, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Departed under their belts.

Is it just me or is anyone else worried this movie going to suck as bad as The Rocketeer?

Dark Void Heading To Big Screen, Brad Pitt Involved

Brad Pitt's company, Plan B, and Reliance Big Pictures have done up a deal with Capcom to develop a feature film based on the "Dark Void" game, potentially providing a starring role for Brad Pitt at the same time.

Capcom will release "Dark Void," about a pilot who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle following a routine mission and wakes up to find himself in an alternate world resembling a primitive earth where aliens with superior technology are planning to take over civilization, in North America and Europe in January next year.

Sweeet.
