It took Terrence Malick nearly 40 years to complete his first documentary feature, Voyage of Time, and now the Toronto International Film Festival has announced the fruits of the legendary filmmaker’s labor will finally have their world premiere — in IMAX form — at the annual event’s 2016 edition.

Billed simply as “the story of our universe” and narrated by Oscar-winning actor and producer Brad Pitt, the 45-minute-long IMAX version of Voyage of Time serves as an ambitious “celebration of life, the history of the universe and its awe-inspiring vastness” as it documents a range of natural, universal occurences from the birth of the galaxies to the emergence of life on Earth.

“We are thrilled that TIFF audiences will be the first to experience the first documentary of this film visionary in glorious IMAX,” TIFF Director and CEO, Piers Handling, said of the film’s IMAX world premiere in a press statement. “It’s an honour to have the World and North American Premieres of the two versions of Malick’s magnum opus, one of the most remarkable cinematic experiences of the year.”

The cosmic odyssey will be released in two formats; A longer, 90-minute version of the film (narrated by Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett) will also have its North American debut as part of the Toronto International Film Festival, following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday. The IMAX installment hits theaters Oct. 7.
