New Moon’s Taylor Lautner is ready to flex more than his muscles. The young actor would like to show off his acting chops by going up against the industry’s heavy hitters.

“I really look up to Denzel Washington as an actor. I’d love to do a film with him one day in the future,” he told the magazine. “That would be my dream come true. And I love the action-drama films like Matt Damon and Brad Pitt do.”

Despite setting teen hearts fluttering in the Twilight series, Lautner keeps a grounded perspective on his new-found fame.

“I think fans would love anybody who played Jacob. I’m just lucky to be the one who got the chance.”

And what about that summer romance with Selena Gomez? Lautner stayed a gentleman and kept the details slim, only offering: “She’s a great girl.”

Jennifer has recently been linked to “The Bounty” co-star Gerard Butler. The couple was reportedly spotted holding hands during a Saturday night date in New York last weekend. However, Jen’s publicist said they were not holding hands and were out with a group of friends.

Former child pop singer-turned-reality TV star Aaron Carter is on the hunt for an older woman, and Jennifer is on the top of his list. He says, “Age is just a number. Jennifer Aniston would be great, I would love that. That would be amazing… Just think about our kids!”

During a season when studios have become all but convinced that audiences are losing interest in big-name movie stars and R-rated adult fare, perhaps it was appropriate that the end of summer would offer a surprise hit that embodied both those qualities.

“Inglourious Basterds,” featuring Brad Pitt among an ensemble cast, earned $38 million at the box office this weekend in the U.S. and Canada, according to domestic distributor Weinstein Co., far exceeding expectations by drawing a fairly diverse audience without alienating director Quentin Tarantino’s core fan base of men in their 20s and early 30s.

The same occurred overseas, where Universal Pictures opened the film in 22 territories, including Germany, France, Britain and Australia, to a strong $27.5 million.

It’s not the only movie this summer to open significantly stronger than pre-release polling had indicated. That list includes Warner Bros.’ June release “The Hangover” and last weekend’s “District 9″ from Sony Pictures. But “Inglourious Basterds” certainly had the most at stake — around $70 million in production spending split between Weinstein Co., which hasn’t had a major release since December’s “The Reader,” and Universal, which has had a string of box-office underperformers this summer, including “Land of the Lost” and “Funny People.”

The opening weekend numbers provided an unexpected ending to a months-long marketing campaign. Since the movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May to a mixed response, speculation has run rampant in Hollywood as to whether the movie would resemble Tarantino’s 1994 breakout hit “Pulp Fiction,” which earned $108 million domestically, or his 1997 follow-up “Jackie Brown,” which grossed under $40 million.

Looks like Brad Pitt still has a few more years to go before he enters into his glibless, insult-hurling, couch-jumping phase.

Despite what seemed like an albeit uncharacteristic verbal sucker punch to Tom Cruise’s moviemaking chops last week, a rep for the Inglourious Basterds thesp has denied that Pitt has ever had a bad word to say about his onetime costar.

On Friday, the German magazine Stern ran an interview with Angie’s better half, quoting the reigning box office champ as slamming Cruise’s rival Nazi-fighting film Valkyrie as, quite simply, “a ridiculous movie.”

But this is one dogfight that ended before it began.

“Brad has never seen Valkyrie, so this is not accurate,” his manager told tabloid of record Us Weekly.

Which, if we wanted to stir things up, we could almost classify as a diss-by-snubbing.

Not that we would ever want to do that.

Guess we’ll just have to settle for the second-rate feuding of Joe & Alec.

The war effort by Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt has paid off as their history lesson “Inglourious Basterds” claimed victory at the box office with a $37.6 million debut.

It was Tarantino’s best opening ever, exceeding the $25.1 million haul for 2004’s “Kill Bill — Vol. 2.” Overseas, “Inglourious Basterds” added $27.5 million in 22 countries, giving it a worldwide total of $65.1 million.

Released domestically by the Weinstein Co. and overseas by Universal, “Inglourious Basterds” features Pitt and an international ensemble in a sprawling tale of Jewish commandos and a plot to take out Nazi leaders at a movie premiere during World War II.

The film provided a much-needed hit for Harvey and Bob Weinstein, who have managed only lackluster receipts at their new outfit since departing Disney-owned Miramax four years ago. Read more…

Having adequately filled the public in on his and Angie’s rampant randiness, past toking up habits and nonexistent mayoral aspirations, the one-man sound bite machine that is Brad Pitt is now paying lip service to a topic guaranteed to keep him (and his new movie) in the headlines: dissing former costars.

Or rather, one costar in particular.

The unexpected slam came when Pitt was promoting Inglorious Basterds by blessing the German magazine Stern with an interview and the questioner, clearly unversed in the ego-stroking required of such an activity, made the mistake of mentioning the year’s other Nazi-fighting flick, Tom Cruise’s Valkyrie. “For a long time I’ve thought, ‘One of these days I hope I can write a character that would be terrific for Brad Pitt and we can have a collaboration that will be like a Babe Ruth home run.’ So as I was writing the character of the leader of the Inglourious Basterds, I was like, ‘OK, this is the one for Brad.’ But then I started getting nervous. I was like, ‘What if he doesn’t like it, what am I gonna do?’ I sent him the script and we had a meeting and, after a long night of talking a about movies and a few bottles of wine, he was ready to sign on.”

Why he hearts Brad.

“Brad is a wonderful actor, but what I also got was a terrific movie star at the zenith of his iconic status. We’ve been around about the same amount of time as far as the business is concerned — he came out with Thelma and Louise in ‘91, I came out with Reservoir Dogs in ‘92 – and I’ve loved watching him do his thing over the years. There were moments when I was framing him up in the view finder, that I was like, ‘God, I feel I’m experiencing what Sydney Pollack must have felt shooting Jeremiah Johnson and looking at Robert Redford. Brad has that same quality that just shines through on camera. He’s just the man right now.

While filming Quentin Tarantino’s movie about World War II, Inglourious Basterds, superdad Brad Pitt offered up some unconventional hygiene tips for his sometimes smelly costars.

“He shared that when you’re sweating and don’t have time to take a shower, you just take a baby wipe and rub it under your armpits,” Pitt’s costar and pal Eli Roth told PEOPLE at Saturday’s Spike TV Guys Choice 2009 in Los Angeles, set to air on the cable network June 21 at 10 p.m.

“After a scene, Brad had to get next to me for a close-up shot, and he said, ‘Damn, you’re ripe,’ ” recalls Roth, 37. “I said, ‘I didn’t have time to shower.’ He said, ‘Baby wipes, man, baby wipes.’ ”

When it came to Pitt’s pits, Roth said the leading man explained, “I got six kids. All you’ve got to do is just take them, a couple quick wipes under the pits.” Pitt further said, “Man, I’m getting pissed on all day. I don’t have time to take a shower.” Read more…

Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt have spun some revisionist history on how World War II ended. Their war saga “Inglourious Basterds” premiered Wednesday at the Cannes Film Festival, presenting a band of Jewish Allied soldiers led by Pitt who play a pivotal role in taking down the Third Reich with a strategic strike against the top Nazi brass. “It was definitely outrageous, which I’m always game for,” Pitt said of Tarantino’s rewrite of the history books. As the sea along the Cote D’Azur shimmered in the sunshine, Brad Pitt arrived to add some further sparkle to his familiar springtime haunt, the Cannes Film Festival.

Pitt, 45, was spotted Saturday at the Hotel du Cap, having lunch on a balcony after flying in from the U.S. It is said he is staying in a chalet on the grounds of the highly exclusive hotel, just along the coast in Antibes, on the Riviera. Read more…
